Girl Talk: Your Source for Gossip and Beauty
There has been a lot of talk about “too skinny” models in the press lately. Much of what was prompted by Madrid banning models with a BMI of less than 18% from their upcoming fashion week and by comments made by the Culture Minister in London about the state of overly thin fashion models. This is sparking a huge debate in the fashion world, some who think things should be left well enough alone, afterall, clothes look better on thin models and some who think it is fine time for change.
I don’t think a number, such as BMI, can define health, though it can be an indicator of something being wrong when it is too high or too low. Many athletes, for example, would not be able to model in Madrid, yet they are often regarded as examples of health. Fitness competitors often get as low as 12% bodyfat during competition season. As a vegan I am concerned for all creatures, human and nonhuman. If I saw a dog on the street with ribs and spine showing, I would take it home, give it love and FEED IT. Models with bones sticking out everywhere just aren’t healthy or attractive. Thin is beautiful and healthy, skinny isn’t. I want to draw your attention to the following models knees, for example. She is so skinny, that her legs and knees are no longer attractive.

I personally think it is so sad. The pressure being put on models, and now Hollywood to be overlly skinny is not right. What happened to the beautiful body of Corey Everson as being a role model,

or Amy Fadhli.

Now this beauty. I can guarentee more guys would fantasize about Amy Fadhli before they fantasize about the girl with the boney knees. Clothes are sold to woman and who are women dressing up for, other women? I thought we dressed up to look nice for ourselves and our respective “other.” So why would we look to skinny women as being fashion role models? Is fashion really just about one-upping our neighbor? Do women really dress up only to impress each other? The girls on the catwalk are only attractive to the less than straight men who put them out there, because they are not attractive to heterosexual men. Which do you think men find more attractive, size 00 women or size 10 women? If there are any men out there, please tell me which of these two models do you find more attractive:

Okay, now for something a bit lighter. Today I want to talk about all over moisturizers. With the right moisturizer, you can quench your skin and alleviate the need for added perfumes.
I personally use Pure & Basic Revitalizing, with a fresh floral scent mixed with green tea for great skin health, this is the perfect lotion for when you are on the go. Pure & Basic doesn’t use any sulphites or parabens and is completely cruelty-free.
Some other great choices include Organic Oasis Tiare Flower and White Tea Body Lotion, Pyreness Lavender with Cardamom Hand and Body Lotion
, and Primavera Harmony Body Lotion
. I definitely recommend these as natural replacements to heavy paraben based lotions and dehydrating alcohol-based perfumes.
Finally, I will leave you with my favorite fashion pick of the week:

These slim low waist denim jeans by Dolce & Gabbana are so rocker chic. They would be perfect paired with a great pair of black studded ankle boots and the pocket is made of pleather. That’s right, no animals died to make these jeans.
