I love that eco-fashions are popping up everywhere lately! Check out my new favorite organic tee-shirt line, Majestic Tees, at http://www.Artfulwears.com. They’re made of organic cotton and cashmere blends and utilize a geothermal production facility and eco-friendly dyeing processes. Plus they are SO SOFT!!! check them out at Artfulwears. (I love the tuxedo shirt!!)

this line of thinking that by not harming animals directly, that the environment will be benifitted, is a bit misguided. not to say that it isn’t a noble endeavor, however it just isn’t very thorough in it’s assessment of what cruelty and damage to the earth really are.
for a short, in depth, well researched essay, see:
“the oil we eat” article by richard manning
http://www.truthout.org/docs_04/080904G.shtml
or the excellent book “omnivore’s dilemma”
the deeper you look into it, it becomes clear that synthetic materials cause just as much suffering and death (if not more) to produce than wool and leather. the “ethics” of eating fake, processed meat begin to crumble. the amount of oil used to produce processed goods, order vegan boots online, etc. far exceeds what is required to humanely produce goods by more conventional means. So while it is laudable to try to conserve and prevent suffering, it is important to think about it realistically.
wouldn’t it be infinitely more “ethical” to buy second hand clothes at a vintage shop or thrift store? make your own or buy as locally as possible? it just won’t work to pretend we’re making a difference if the choices we make actually cause more harm than good. let’s learn new ways and shed our old habits of excess, greediness and plundering.
sorry to get all preachy, I don’t mean to offend anybody. just wanted to share my thoughts.
