The company was founded by Susanne Langmuir in 2011, launched in 2012, and was acquired in 2014 by Kendo. They currently have their headquarters in Toronto, ON.

All Bite Beauty’s products are made using food-grade vegan ingredients infused with resveratrol. Bite Beauty is also in charge of Lip Labs, Brick-and-Mortar stores where customers can create models of their desired lipsticks.

As of 2019, four Lip Labs were operating across the U.S.

Is Bite Beauty Cruelty-Free?

For Bite Beauty to be cruelty-free, it has to satisfy the following criteria that we will discuss one by one.

• They should not test on animals – The brand should not conduct animal tests on any of its brands during manufacturing, production, or marketing stages.
• They should not test even when required by the law – In some countries, all cosmetics must undergo animal testing. In these cases, a cruelty-free company should not test on animals.
• Their products should not be sold in China – China requires that all cosmetics shipping into the country undergo mandatory animal testing. They also do not allow any products from a cruelty-free company to sell in the Chinese market.

By meeting all three criteria, Bite Beauty will qualify for our cruelty-free checklist.

Are Bite Beauty Products Tested on Animals?

Bite Beauty has confirmed that they do not test on animals during manufacturing and production processes and marketing from their official animal testing statement.

Do They Test on Animals Where Required by the Law? Or Using a Third Party?

The company’s animal testing policy does not allow any form of animal testing even when the law requires it. First, they do not sell in countries where the law requires mandatory animal testing.

Bite Beauty might not be Leaping Bunny certified, but has other accreditations like PETA. The company was once Leaping Bunny certified but failed to renew their certification in 2020 and was scrapped from the list.

It’s entirely voluntary to be Leaping Bunny certified, so the brand just decided they no longer wanted to be Leaping Bunny certified.

Note that this doesn’t automatically mean that Bite Beauty is not cruelty-free. Bite Beauty remains PETA certified.

Are Bite Beauty Products Sold in China?

No. Bite Beauty is a PETA certified cruelty-free company. China does not allow any cruelty-free company to sell its products in the Chinese market as animal testing is mandatory by the law.

So, there’s no way Bite Beauty trades in China.

The company has also confirmed from their animal testing policy that they do not test on animals or allow third-party companies to test on their behalf, contrary to Chinese animal testing laws.

There are known corporations that qualify a company to be cruelty-free and acceptable in the global market. One such is PETA.

PETA has awarded Bite Beauty with a Beauty Without Bunnies cruelty-free certification.

Is Bite Beauty Parent Company Kendo Cruelty-Free?

Kendo acquired Bite Beauty in 2014. Kendo is a cruelty-free group that is PETA certified. However, Kendo is owned by another parent company, LVMH, which is not cruelty-free. Regardless of the acquisition, Bite Beauty is still cruelty-free.

Is Bite Beauty Vegan?

Vegan products mean that they do not include any animal-sourced ingredients in the manufacturing of their products.

Some years ago, Bite Beauty was not vegan. Their products were made from many animal-sourced ingredients and by-products like milk. However, in 2020, the company evolved and decided to go 100% vegan.

All their products have currently been reformulated and are purely made using food-grade ingredients from plants.

Animal-derived ingredients such as lanolin, beeswax, and carmine have all been scrapped from the production process. Regardless, note that Lip Lab, a Bite Beauty owned entity, is not 100% vegan.
